I throw an annual party on the Shortest Day of the Year (21 December), to celebrate the fact that the days are only going to get longer and brighter after that. These days I only invite about 12 people over to our house, but one year we invited 75 folks for a nice dinner party at Sosa Borella in Tribeca.

I took light and inspiration as a theme, and asked everyone planning to attend to fill out an online survey about what inspires them. They could respond to any or all of the categories, and from their answers I made these "Inspiration Cards". Each set had a different cover image, but they all included a card for every person there. You can flip through them to pick a new book to read or movie to rent, or just to learn more about someone. By the way, it is quite amazing how many people are inspired by The Shawshank Redemption, Blade Runner, and Paolo Coehlo's The Alchemist.

In addition, each person brought one thing on their list, wrapped, to blindly exchange for someone else's inspiration.
